Two Patterns Most ADHD Women Have That Get in the Way of Getting Stuff Done
Wednesday Nov 01, 2023
Wednesday Nov 01, 2023
In this episode, I dive into two common patterns that I often see in ADHD women: perfectionism and people-pleasing. These patterns can be significant barriers to achieving my goals, especially in my business endeavors. I've personally experienced these tendencies at different times in my life, and I want to share my insights with you.
Perfectionism, as I've noticed, is a defense mechanism that many ADHD individuals, including myself, tend to adopt in order to avoid criticism and judgment. It can hinder my ability to start and finish projects, and I've realized the importance of shifting towards a growth mindset that views mistakes as valuable learning opportunities. I've also found that striving for 100 percent perfection often leads to inaction, and that's something I want to change.
On the other hand, people-pleasing has been another pattern that I've struggled with. It often results in burnout, feelings of loneliness, and a perception that I care more about others than they care about me. Beneath both of these patterns lies a deep-seated belief that I can't handle criticism, judgment, or disappointment from others. To overcome this, I've been working on connecting with my highest self and practicing mindfulness to get to know my inner selves better. The goal is to build self-trust and let go of perfectionism and people-pleasing tendencies.
I hope you find this episode insightful and practical, as I share my personal experiences and strategies to help those with ADHD overcome these patterns and lead a more authentic and fulfilling life.

What We’ve Gotten Wrong About our ADHD and How to Change It
Thursday Oct 26, 2023
Thursday Oct 26, 2023
Hey there, it's Jen, and I'm thrilled to have you tuning in today. I want to dive headfirst into a topic that has captured my attention and the attention of so many ADHD women entrepreneurs out there. It's the elephant in the room, the challenge we face day in and day out – the struggle to consistently get things done. You know, without it feeling like we're expending every ounce of our precious energy just to convince ourselves to take action.
Now, this topic, it's not just a passing fancy. It's the one that keeps popping up in conversations with folks like you and me. It's the one that lights up the internet with likes and downloads whenever I touch on it. You've probably guessed it by now; it's the art of mastering productivity and consistency when you've got an ADHD brain.
But here's the thing: I genuinely believe that we've been given the wrong playbook. We've been fed the wrong advice, misled down a path that only leaves us feeling overwhelmed, confused, and still struggling to find our rhythm. That's why today, I want to unpack this challenge, tear down the misconceptions, and highlight the biggest mistake I see many ADHD women entrepreneurs making.
We're talking about trying strategy after strategy, tools galore, multiple task-tracking apps, time-tracking apps, calendars, programs...you name it. It's time to cut through the noise and discover the real secrets to unlocking your potential.
So, if you're ready to reclaim your focus, your time, and your energy, stay tuned, because we're about to redefine what it means to be a successful ADHD woman entrepreneur. It's time to rewrite the script, my friend. Let's get started!

ADHD in Women - How to Move Beyond Pathology Towards Acceptance, Honoring, and Self-Love
In this episode, I’ll be addressing an often overlooked issue affecting women with ADHD. Many of us unknowingly subject ourselves to daily self-inflicted emotional distress while trying to fit into a world designed for neurotypical individuals. We’ll explore the root causes and discuss how early trauma, especially emotional and verbal abuse, can be just as impactful as more obvious forms of abuse. Our nervous system doesn’t distinguish between external threats and self-criticism, putting us in a constant fight-or-flight response. Instead of forcing ourselves into a neurotypical mold, we should aim to be authentic and enjoy life to maintain a healthy dopamine baseline, crucial for ADHD. Working with our inner critic is essential.
Rather than pushing them away, we should engage in a productive dialogue. It may take time, but it’s a necessary step in reducing self-criticism and self-inflicted trauma, allowing us to embrace our unique ADHD traits and lead more fulfilling lives.

The Biggest Thing Holding You Back in Your Business with ADHD
Wednesday Sep 27, 2023
Wednesday Sep 27, 2023
Many people with ADHD feel trapped, finding it incredibly challenging to motivate themselves to pursue their business goals or even manage daily life tasks. I understand that the way our ADHD brains function doesn't always align perfectly with society's expectations. However, I firmly believe that we can shape our lives to accommodate our unique wiring while still savoring the opportunities life has to offer and being productive when needed.
If you've been grappling with the struggle to get things done because of your ADHD, this episode is tailor-made for you. So, let's dig deeper. One common mindset I observe in people with ADHD is the belief that they simply can't do it, or they're perpetually stuck due to their ADHD. Now, don't get me wrong; I get it. It's entirely reasonable to acknowledge that ADHD can impose limitations. However, it's crucial to recognize that the limitations often stem from a world that wasn't designed with neurodivergent brains in mind.
Blaming ourselves or our ADHD isn't the solution. Society's fit for us, or rather the lack thereof, isn't anyone's fault. It's okay to feel frustration and sadness about the fact that our magnificent ADHD minds aren't a perfect match for the world as it is. Yet, we need to accept this reality to move forward. We can't change the entire world on our own, certainly not overnight. Instead, we must acknowledge the world we're in and find ways to achieve our desired goals within its constraints.
Before we embark on this journey, it's essential to address the internal beliefs that hold us back—what I call limiting beliefs. These beliefs can take various forms and often masquerade as unquestionable truths. It's understandable why we might perceive our ADHD as a perpetual roadblock, given the challenges we face. However, we must examine these beliefs critically.
You see, if we persistently believe that our ADHD renders us incapable, we're essentially dooming ourselves to never reach our aspirations. While it's true that our ADHD can present obstacles, it doesn't mean we can't navigate them. We must find our unique approaches to tasks and minimize our attempts to fit the neurotypical mold. But there's one formidable barrier that surpasses all others: the parts of us that firmly believe we can't succeed.
These limiting beliefs manifest differently in each of us, but they all share the common characteristic of holding us back. A belief, in essence, is a thought or perception that we've internalized as undeniable fact. I understand why it might feel like a fact that our ADHD restricts us, given the world's structure.
Have a listen to the full episode to dive in a little deeper.

Feeling Drained? How to overcome ADHD Burnout
Wednesday Sep 13, 2023
Wednesday Sep 13, 2023
Today, let's dive into something super important: taking a breather. This is especially crucial for us ADHD gals who are tackling both the world of entrepreneurship and a full-time gig.
The Struggle of Perfectionism and Fear of Falling Short
It's so tempting to keep pushing until we're running on empty, often driven by that need for everything to be just perfect or the fear of not measuring up. But here's the thing, pushing too hard usually leads to a crash and burn situation, and that's not what we want.
Tuning Into Our Own Bodies
Now, here's a little something many of us with ADHD struggle with: tuning into our own bodies. It's like our internal volume control is stuck on high. We're so used to overriding those signals that tell us it's time to slow down. So, letting go of all that pent-up stress is a game-changer. It could be through gentle movement, some mindful breathing, or even a good heart-to-heart chat.
The Seven Types of Rest
And then there's the whole range of rests we need to consider—physical, mental, sensory, emotional, social, creative, and even a bonus one for fun! Each type has its own magic, and knowing what fires you up can be a real life-saver.
Understanding Your Rest Style
Now, let's talk about you. Are you an extrovert who thrives on social energy, or do you recharge with some quality alone time? Maybe you're the creative type who finds their zen in making something new or exploring a new hobby.
The Spiritual Side of Rest
And let's not forget about that spiritual side—it's not just about religion, but connecting with something bigger than ourselves. It could be through meditation, yoga, or simply immersing yourself in nature.
Investing in Your Well-being
Making space for all these forms of rest is like putting money in your well-being bank, and it's a must-do for ADHD gals who are out there chasing their dreams.
